Stainless steel OMEGA Dynamic Genève automatic wristwatch. Made 1969

Created in 1967 by OMEGA's sales director Robert Forster the Genève Dynamic collection was designed by Raymond Thévenaz and were produced using distinctive ellipse shaped cases produced by Fernando Fontana (Sesto Calende). Launched in 1968, these truly dynamic watches met with considerable success for several years.

The ellipse case shape was the result of an extensive study of the wrist's anatomy. The crown was integrated into the case so that it would not disturb the aerodynamic lines of the model. The design of the dial was consistent with the overall clean function aspect of the watch and was highly legible thanks to concentric ''time zones'' and contrasting colour hands. The watches were produced with automatic movements and Unicoc cases, with the crystal hermetically sealed for water resistance up to 30 metres.

The straps were another novel idea: they were made from Corfam, a porous synthetic material which were given breathing holes which were widened at the case to be able to fit securely to the wrist. The straps were fixed to the case using a steel ring screwed to the underside of the case. These straps could be changed easily using a key which was produced with the watch.
